Insights into the shockwave attenuation in miniature shock tubes

Miniature shock tubes are finding growing importance in a variety of interdisciplinary applications. There is lack experimental data to validate the existing tube flow models that explain shockwave attenuation pressure-driven miniature tubes. This paper gives insights into formation and propagation phenomena 2mm, 6mm, 10mm square cross-sections operated at diaphragm rupture pressure ratios range 5-25 driven section initially ambient conditions. Pressure measurements visualization studies carried out new table-top system using nitrogen helium as driver gases. The findings validated model explained terms two regions; (1) region, dominated by wave interactions due diaphragm's finite time. (2) where occurs mainly wall effects boundary layer growth. Correlations predict variation Mach number region work well for present reported literature. Similar features observed same dimensionless time stamps. planar front scales proportionally with diameter tube. peak attained higher increases.
